HB50
introduction of support under an existing structure
Walls, columns or footings of a building may be underpinned to:
- (a) prevent collapse due to excessive settlement or any other failure condition; and/or
- (b) allow the loads on a building to be increased; and/or (c) enable the ground level inside or outside a building to be lowered.
Underpinning is often used in conjunction with shoring.
