receiving room equivalent absorption area (A)

Standards
the surface area in square metres, having an absorption coefficient of unity that would absorb the same sound power if in the same diffuse sound field as is absorbed by the areas of surfaces and objects in the receiving room of the sound transmission laboratory
the equivalent absorption area, A, of the receiving room is obtained from the measured reverberation time, T, at each one-third octave centre frequency by use of the following equation: A = 0.16 V / T where
V = volume of receiving room, in cubic metres
T = space-averaged reverberation time of receiving room, in seconds
Reference should be made to AS 1045 for the procedure for measurements of reverberation time from decays of sound pressure level.
