Standards
assemblage of masonry units properly bonded with mortar. The term includes the following:
  1. (a) Plain masonry Masonry that is not grouted, reinforced or prestressed.
  2. (b) Grouted masonry Masonry in which some or all of the cavities in the masonry, or cores in hollow units, are filled with grout.
  3. (c) Unreinforced masonry Masonry that is not reinforced.
  4. (d) Reinforced masonry Masonry in which some or all of the grouted cavities or cores are reinforced with steel reinforcement to comply with the provisions of Section 8.
  5. (e) Prestressed masonry Masonry in which some or all of the cavities or cores are reinforced with stressed tendons to comply with the requirements of Section 9.
  6. (f) Member of mixed construction A member composed of more than one type of masonry system (e.g. unreinforced and reinforced), or more than one type of masonry unit, strength, durability grade or mortar.
  7. (g) Stack bonded masonry Masonry in which the overlap of masonry units in successive courses is less than ¼ of the unit length or 50 mm, whichever is greater.
  8. (h) Special masonry Masonry with specified strength values higher than those specified in this Standard, which is tested during its construction to verify that the specified strength values have been achieved (see Clause 12.7).
