maintained emergency luminaire

Standards
luminaire in which all emergency lighting lamps are energized at all times when normal or emergency lighting is required (refer to Figure 1.1). A maintained emergency luminaire may be switched or un-switched
  1. (a) Switched An emergency light or exit sign where the light source can be turned on and off when mains power is present (i.e. not in emergency mode). The term is used in conjunction with either ‘maintained’ or ‘combined maintained’. This switching function is independent of the operation of the battery charger.
  2. (b) Un-switched An emergency light or exit sign that cannot be turned on and off when mains power is present (i.e. not in emergency mode). The term is used in conjunction with either ‘maintained’ or ‘combined maintained’.
See Figure C1 of Appendix C for a typical schematic arrangement for a maintained, self-contained emergency luminaire.
The term ‘maintained’ can be applied to individual lamps in a combined emergency luminaire.
